Here’s what you need to know before exhibiting at Autumn Fair

Taking part in Autumn Fair as a small or growing business can be life changing, but before you commit to having a stand, it’s vital that you’re fully prepared to make the most of it.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE TRADE SHOW READY?

You should think of getting ready for Autumn Fair like getting ready for Dragon’s Den. Buyers are going to fire a lot of questions at you and you need to know the answer to all of them, questions like:  

  • What are my prices? 
  • What is my cost per unit? 
  • Who is my target customer? 
  • What is my profit margin? 
  • What is my total revenue?  
  • Who are my competitors?  
  • How much are my expenses? 
  • Why my products over someone else’s?  
  • How many products can I ship per order? 
  • How long does it take for me to ship products to my customers?  

Rehearse the answers in front of the mirror if you have to, but you need to know these like the back of your hand. Fun fact, Theo Paphitis is often at our shows, so you might have to answer these questions in front of a dragon for real!  

HOW TO GET READY TO EXHIBIT

YOUR STAND SET-UP

Your stand is your shop for the day, or the days, that you’re at Autumn Fair. Make it as welcoming and memorable as possible. Sometimes people will see a stand, go past it but come back to it later because they remembered it. It could be that they remembered the look, the smell, or the freebies!  Put yourself in your customers shoes and think - 

‘If I’m at an event with thousands of people and hundreds of stands, what would make me stop walking, or at least walk back to that stand later over others?’  

SPREADING THE WORD

Please take full advantage of all the marketing tools that we provide, we want you to get the most out of exhibiting as possible. Business can be hard; we created this show to make it a bit easier.   

Upload your products, share your story on social media and update your online profile ahead of the show. But we’re not talking just a post here and there, plan as much as you can about what you’re going to post and when. It’s competitive out there, whispering won’t help you get noticed, shouting (on social media) repeatedly will though.  

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

We of course want you to be flooded with orders when exhibiting here but the truth is, not every business makes huge sales at their first event. Sucess is subjective and we all need to start somewhere, it might be that you want to build your network, test your pricing or just get feedback from people who don’t know you. Set goals that make sense to you.
